Sugar Cookies


What You’ll Need

Cookies

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 cup butter

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1/2 tsp almond extract - or omit and use 1 1/2 tsp vanilla

  • 1 egg

  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp cream of tartar

Icing

  • 3 cups powdered sugar

  • 1/3 cup softened butter

  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla

  • 2 tbsp milk


Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, butter, vanilla, almond extract & egg.

  2. Stir in remaining ingredients.

  3. Cover and refrigerate for 3 hours.

  4. After 3 hours, preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  5. Divide the dough in half.

  6. Roll out to 1/4” thick and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.

  7. Bake on parchment lined cookie sheet for 7-8 minutes or until the edges are a light brown.

  8. While your cookies are cooling, make your icing.

  9. Mix softened butter and sugar.

  10. Stir in vanilla and milk and beat until smooth.

  11. Add to your cookies.

This recipe yields about 5 dozen cookies.
