Elderberry Fire Cider
Fire Cider- What is it? What does it do? Why do you need it?
Fire Cider is an all natural tonic loaded with goodness that helps boost immunity, support digestion, increase energy, sooth sore and scratchy throats and much more. It is an anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, natural decongestant that contains powerful antioxidants.
Be aware- this recipe does need 4-6 weeks of rest time- so we recommend making before your cool Fall weather sets in so you can have it on hand and ready to go before flu and cold season hits.
What You’ll Need
Large mason jar with lid
1/2 large red onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup fresh/frozen elderberries or 1/4 cup dried elderberries
1/4 cup grated horseradish or 1/2 cup of prepared horseradish
1/4 cup garlic, finely chopped
1/4 cup fresh ginger, grated or 3 tsp of ground ginger
1/4 cup fresh turmeric, grated or roughly 1.5 tbsp of ground turmeric
1/4 cup fresh cranberries
1 apple, sliced
1 lime, sliced (keep the rind on)
1 lemon, sliced (keep the rind on)
1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper and/or 2 chopped jalapeños (depending on your spice level)
apple cider vinegar
1-2 cups (or 8-16 oz) raw honey to sweeten
Note: Scale up or down to best suit your needs. This recipe truly can be customized to you- this is just a great starting point.

Instructions
Place everything in a large mason jar except the apple cider vinegar and honey.
Pour apple cider vinegar to cover the contents plus an inch or so in the mason jar.
Let it sit in a cool, dark place for 4-6 weeks. Shake the jar several times a week. Ensure the contents are still covered with Apple Cider Vinegar, add more if necessary.
Label with the day you prepared it, date it is ready for use, and its expiry date.
When it’s ready, strain the liquid using cheesecloth and/or a fine strainer into a clean mason jar.
Add the honey to sweeten to your liking.
How to Use + Storage
- Use 1-2 tbsp at a time. Throw it back like like a shot when you just turned 21. :)
- Keep refrigerated. Use within 6 months.
