Flaxseed mask
What You’ll Need
1/4 cup whole flaxseeds
2 c water
Note: You can double this recipe if you’d like.
Instructions
Stovetop Method
Combine flaxseeds and water into a small saucepan
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly to prevent the seeds from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
When the mixture reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low-continue stirring and let it simmer until it reaches a gel-like consistency- about 10-15 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
When cool, strain the gel using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a bowl or jar, separating the gel from the seeds.
Storage
Store the flaxseed gel in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Use within a week or two.
Jar Method
Pour 1/2 cup of flaxseeds into a jar
Pour 1 cup of boiling water over the flaxseeds
Stir. Then keep stirring. Stir some more. And then… stir. (This is when you’re wishing you did the stovetop method.)
Put your lid on the glass jar and transfer to the refrigerator for 24 hours.
After 24 hours, strain your mixture through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or you can put the gel into a silicone mold and freeze and use individually to make it last longer.
